02 / 03 January 2026 – Winters walks and a Wainwright fell

The cold but sunny weather continues and so on Friday we took a walk along the old railway track, there wasn’t much about in terms of wildlife, but the Redwings were plentiful, the odd Goldcrest was about and the Grey Heron was in his usual spot on the pond.

On Saturday we decided to take the dog on a walk up a small Wainwright next to Bassenthwaite Lake called Sale Fell. This isn’t a great spot for wildlife but there was plenty of Meadow Pippits about and Stonechat on the lower flanks, the most photographed wild animal today was the dog !
