03 August 2024 : Afternoon walk in West Cumbria
3 August 2024, Grey ish weather a trip tot he quarry and a walk around the pond at home.
Rain was forecast for the evening so I had an early walk to the Peregrines and Owls, the adult Barn Owl was roosting and there was at least one, possibly two chicks in the nest still after seeing one fledge last week. It was still early in the day though so they were not flying yet, so i headed up to the cliff tops to see if the Peregrines were flying. As soon as i gained hieght I saw the adult flying high with one of its chicks close by, the both flew around for 5 miniutes until the returned to to the cliff tops to roost, just out of view.
I decided to call it a day before it rained and headed home, where I was treated to the Grey Heron fishing on the pond. The rest of the pond remains strangly empty of all other birds, normally at this time of year we have all manner of water birds here along with a resident Mute Swan, but this year apart from the Mallards and Grey Heron, we have had very little else, fingers crossed its just a blip and the diverisity will return soon
