The Snow had stopped and roads looked mostly clear, so I decided to have a trip up to Workington to see if the Short Eared Owl was about. The sun was shining and the Kestrels out hunting, but sadly no sign of the Owl today, so I called it a day and headed home, on the way back I decided to check a location that sometimes has interesting wildlife and to my huge surprise there was a Short Eared Owl hunting by the treeline! This area had SEO’s in the past but they have not been seen for 5 or 6 years, so to have them back is fantastic.
I managed to quickly grab my camera as soon as I saw it , jump out the car and fire off a few shots, they are not great photos as I was a long way away, but a good record never the less.
You go years without seeing one in your local area and then in two weeks you find two sites, a great day out and if the weather holds I will go back and check to see if it is still in the new area. Watch this space
