10 & 11 May : West Cumbria in the sunshine

A very sunny weekend which meant that during the day it was no good to d much photography as a) everything was hiding from the sun and b) the haze was so bad the photos were no good! so I ventured out at dawn and dusk to see what was about.

The Hares are still about but a long way off and hiding from the sun, but this didn’t seem to bother the wild Rabbits who were happily running and jumping and just enjoying the nice weather.

The Roe Deer were also plentiful, but mainly in the shelter of the scrub and Gorse but still great to see, especially the one that was feeding in the bluebells.

The stars of the weekend though were the little brown birds, I’m still learning my warblers and associated birds, they are not easy to spot or get a clear shot of, so you need to learn their calls and songs first and then be patient. The Willow Warblers and Sedge Warblers were out in good numbers, along with the Common and Lesser Whitethroats, while the elusive Chiffchaffs were very easy to hear but not s easy to find !

I did venture out during the day once, but only as far as our back garden where I watched the Great Tits, flying back and forth with an endless supply of caterpillars to feed their nest, food went in and poo sacks came out, in a seemingly endless stream !
