11 August 2024 : Sunny weather in the main so a nice early morning walk and a short evening one too in West Cumbria
An early walk up to see how the Barn Owls are doing, still three chicks in the nest, although all three look almost fully grown and ready to fledge but they just cant seem to find their flight wings yet, they keep flapping and scrambling to the top of the nest, but never actually flying off.
The adults seem to be running out of tolerence though, and while they are still hunting for them, they dont roost in the nest, instead hiding on the crags nearby. The light was great in the morning and I managed to get some shots from above, the evening was not so great light but was still good to see them hunting and the Pergrine Falcons are still staying in the area, even though both chicks are flying and appear independant.
I’ll keep checking and hopefully see the Owl chicks flying soon – weather permitting , Barn Owls dont have waterproof feathers, so if it rains they wont fly. This being Cumbria they might be in the nest for a while yet 🙂
