13/06/24 : Early morning walk in West Cumbria

13 June 2024 : Early morning walk and Otters !

Grey start to the day, but set to rain later so an early start

A grey but dry early morning and a walk around a local lake, I had gone to look for Kingfishers but instead spotted an Otter in the lake fishing for his breakfast.

The sky was full of Swifts, Swallows and Martins , while on the lake a few Mute Swans were out with Mallards and their chicks, but the Otter was the star of the show.

It stayed mainly in the middle of the lake but swam around for 20 mins hunting in the weed before disappearing into the woodland. The walk home was also interesting as ever since the local water authority carried out work upstream the local river ( The River Eden ) has been very low on both Dippers and Grey Wagtails, today however both were back in small in small numbers.

Rain stopped play, and looks set to stay for a week, so I was glad to get out in this brief moment of dry weather, Im hoping Summer will arrive soon but there’s not much sign of it in West Cumbria
