13 to 17 July 2024 : Peregrines, Kestrels and Barn Owls
13 to 17 July 2024 : Brief spells of good weather and so trips out to a West Cumbrian site of nesting birds
After what seemed like weeks of grey, wet weather the sun came out and so I headed back to a local site that I has a good coloney of breeding birds. Last week I watched a Peregrine Falcon nest with two chicks in and this week they both fledged successfully, sitting today on different sides of the area watching each other and being watched from afar by their mother.
Further along the reserve was a nesting Barn Owl, with the adult making trips back and forwards bringing in prey for the chicks, and right next to the Barn Owls nest was a nesting Kestrel.
I spent a happy few hours just sitting and watching the birds to and fro, and returned over the next couple of days to check on the porgress of all the nesting birds.
