14 August 2024 : A bright day with a cloudy evening
Took a trip up to check on the progress of the Barn Owl chicks and they are still in the nest, all three of them with one adult bird feeding them. I had hoped to see the chicks leave the nest but with rain coming in tonight and the clouds already arriving it seems likely they will remain in the nest for a little longer yet.
The adult Barn Owl was out hunting and as the light dimmed tonight I counted 5 voles being brought in to the nest, didn’t get any great shots with the poor light but the photos should give the impression at least. During the day when the light was better I spotted the Peregrin Falcon flying about in the distance and got a couple of long distance shots, at home the Butterflies were out in the garden ( Cabbage whites, Meadow browns and Peacocks ) and there were plenty of Blue Darters on the Pond and even a pair of Common Darters breeding in the garden.
It looks set to be a wet night and a very wet day tomorrow so probably no updates till Friday now.
