16 September 2024 Moths & Butterflies in Parkside , Cumbria

Today the sun came out in Cumbria, and so we managed to get a few much needed jobs done in our Garden. The pond was very quiet, the Snipe seems to have left as have the Mallards and all that is here is the Grey Heron fishing and the odd Wood Pigeon having a drink.

This didn’t matter as the garden was buzzing with life, Bees of all sorts, bumbles and honey were flitting between the flowers and we had a whole host of Moths and Butterflies. The Peacock butterflies were out in force, there were some rather battered look Red Admirals, a Speckled Wood and most exciting was the Humming Bird Hawk Moth.

This Moth was very hard to catch on camera due to its speed, I eventually settled on a frame speed of over 4000 th of a second and even then some of the wing movemnets were getting blurred. Regardless I managed to get a few shots which turned out OK. This weather is set to continue and so I hope to get out tomorrow and see what else is about.
