18 – 20th March 2026 – out and about in West Cumbria

The weather has been mixed this week, but the sun has shone on occasion and so we got out and about a few times. Its good to see the bird life starting to come back, the hedges and waters are slowly getting busier after what feels like a long Winter.

At home the swans are back, there’s a pair of Oyster Catchers looking to nest and we are getting visiting Geese most days.

Further afield the Cormorants are doing well and in good numbers everywhere, the Goldcrests are starting to be seen and heard in the hedges, and we saw the first Tufted Ducks of the year on a local lake.

Fingers crossed for some more good weather and who know maybe the Swallows and Martins will arrive soon
