Today was the first day on the Isle of Bute in the West of Scotland. We left Cumbria early once our house sitters were settled in and drove up to Scotland and to Weymss for the Ferry to Bute. Skye was a bit startled by the hustle and bustle of the ferry but enjoyed it never the less !
Landing at Rothersey we headed on a drive over to Ettrick Bay to explore while we waited for our cottage to be ready. We walked along the bay and then to the cafe to have some lunch watching the Gannets diving. What a place everywhere you looked there was bird life and within an hour we had seen – Wheater, Gannet, Red-Breasted Merganser, Gooseander, Dunnock, Osprey, Oyster Catcher, Bar Tailed Godwit, Redshank, Oyster Catcher, White Wagtail, Rock Pipit, Sandwich Tern, Herring Gull, Black Backed Gull, Redshank, and Common Sandpiper !
After lunch we settled into our cottage on the beach at Kilchatten Bay, and an evening stroll gave even more species to add to the list – Hooded Crow, Rabbits, Stonechats, Bar tailed Godwit & sheep ! what a day.
