We landed on Arran on the ferry from Troon in sunshine, and straight away went for a costal wander. The beaches were packed wildlife and Herons, Gulls, Pipets and Sanderlings were merrily showing very well.
We headed to our cottage at Kingscross and took a wander admiring the highland cattle and trying but failing to get a photo of the Hares ! The morning broke with a superb sunset and so I set off the puppy to the beach just behind our cottage, as the sun came up the Curlews and Herons were everywhere, the Sanpipers and Oyster catchers were calling but try as I might I couldn’t spot an Otter ! Undetered we headed of to Brodick Castle to see if there were any Red Squirrels about, and we were not disappointed with three showing very well in the woodland.
Dinner called and so we set off for lunch at eh Corrie on the East coast, more red squirrels were here running about in the filed by the beach as we headed off for a tour around the island to get our bearings, Along the way we saw Red Deer, Seals balanced on rocks, Gannets hunting and Red Breasted Mergansers in the estuaries, we even spotted a White Tailed Eagle but were driving and unable to stop to watch it.
Back at the cottage another trip to the beach saw more mergansers, Curlews and Herons. The sun was going in and so back to the cottage for a rest but tomorrow looks like another sunny day so up early for the beach !
