I almost didnt go out tonight as the light was not great and storm “Bert” was due to move in, but thought I would give it half an hour and see, and I’m glad I did. The light was coming and going at the barn, sun and cloud in equal measure and I stood in the freezing cold for over an hour seeing nothing and just as I thought it was going to be a no show, they appeared.
The Female Barn Owl came flying over the barn, chasing the Male which is her offspring from this year, she clearly thinks its time he leaves. He’s not been flying the past week and I thought he had left but he was back tonight and she wasn’t pleased! After chasing him back into the barn she sat on the window sill looking over her shoulder, clearly looking for him, sadly he waited till she was looking the other way before quickly sneaking passed her and flying out over the top of her. He headed off over the fields to the right to hunt, and after five minutes she headed out to hunt but on the left as far away from him as she could !
Tonight will be the last day for a couple of days that the Owls will feed as they cant fly in the wet , so hopefully they had a good feed tonight.
