24 Feb 2025 : Quick evening stroll near Frizington West Cumbria – Raptors !

24 Feb 2025 – A quick walk out as the sun was shining to see if the Barn Owls were flying at the usual spot, but sadly there was no sign of them tonight. However, the local Kestrel was hunting in the sun and I managed to watch for 15 minutes before it was mobbed by a Buzzard and left. As I watched it depart, a flash of white caught my eye and I thought at first it was the Barn Owl, until I realised it was a Male Hen Harrier !

I knew that there was one in the local area, but I haven’t seen it for a couple of months, but here it was flying low over the moor land a long way away but clearly a Harrier. As I focused the camera I saw the female Harrier land behind it and I managed to catch a few long shots before they both disappeared behind the dry stone wall.

I waited for a while to see if they would return, but sadly no sign. The photos won’t win any awards, but it was fantastic to see them in the area, hopefully they will stay and become a nesting pair. Watch this space !
