27 & 28 September 2025 : Arran days 8 & 9

Our last two days on Arran were a mixed bag, with one wet day followed by one of bright sunshine. The wet day was spent pottering about, and a couple of short walks dodging the rain. The next day however started with a dawn trip to the point at Kingscross to look for Otters, and I wasn’t disappointed. Right on cue just as the sun was coming up an Otter made its way out of the bay and headed round the point towards the open sea. We sat and watched it for a while and even followed it along the coast but by they time the sun was fully up it was nowhere to be seen, we did however get to see a harbour seal heading the other way into the bay as well as lots of Oyster catchers, Redshanks, Curlews, Herons and even a Wheatear on the the beach.

Back at our holiday cottage we got ready for a trip around the island, starting in the West and finishing at the far end of Lamlash bay. The wildlife was out in force all around the island , and it was fantastic to sit as the sun went down watching the Gannets dive into the sea surrounded by Seals floating around and balancing on the rocks !

Arran is a wonderful place , with plenty of wildlife if you go and look for it, out of Scotlands Big Five we managed to see four on this trip, with only the Eagles left to find, sadly with having a young puppy we were unable to walk into the Glens to see these, so we are going to plan a return trip next year when we will hopefully be able to tick them off and maybe even see a whale or two !
