We had a short trip to the Midlands after Christmas , which was not a wildlife trip, but the dog needed walking and so I took my camera and Im glad I did.
I had been told of a Kingfisher on the local river, and two dog walks were taken along the river bank, and while I didn’t spot the Kingfisher I did manage to see Grey Herons, Egrets, Geese, Wagtails, a grey Squirrel and even a Alpaca. Just goes to show what you can find in a built up area if you are looking.
The next day I took a trip to Bradgate Park, this is a park land that was originally the home estate of Lady Jane Grey one of Henry the 8ths wives, no gifted to the people of the county for their leisure. It is well known as having a large population of Red and Fallow Deer. The park was very busy with it being Christmas so I had to go off the main paths to look for wildlife. It was worth it though as there was a herd of Fallow Deer resting in the woodland a few others close by. Despite wet and windy weather it was great to spend an hour or so watching these animals, who were not even remotely bothered by Skye the Border Collie watching them as well.
