For the final few days of our New Zealand adventure we decided not to travel too far, and just enjoy Kaikōura which is probably my favourite part of South Island.
We had a day walking along the beach from our house, watching Hector Dolphins, Pied Shags and Red Billed Gulls. We even found a small caravan on the beach called Nins Bin, which was owned by a fisherman and his wife, he caught the fish and Lobster and she cooked the up and served the from the van. Probably the best fish and chips we have ever had sat by the beach surrounded by Red Billed Gulls, Fur Seals and crashing waves.
Another day we drove to the point and had a long walk over the top and back along the rocky beach, watching White Faced Herons, Masked Lapwings, Fur seals and even the odd Yellow Hammer.
We also enjoyed the house, drove the local area, cooked, lazed and tried many of the restaurants, and it was the perfect way to end our trip surrounded by seals and Dolphins.
The end of the trip saw us drive to a small town just outside of Christchurch, and another long beach walk watching the fishermen and fur seals, then it was back to the airport and off to Singapore for a couple of days before home to Cumbria.
The Singapore pictures can be found in a separate diary, full of Otters 🙂
