It seems a bit odd going looking at Barn Owls at 3.45pm but it hasn’t been light all day and dusk was going to be early so off I went.
As soon as I arrived I saw the mother leave its roost and head for the far barns, shortly followed by this years young male and so I settled down for the normal fruitless wait ! I can often wait for hours and they don’t appear, but tonight my luck was in and out through the young male. He flew around for a short while, out of shot before landing on the post just as the light was fading and preceeded to stay there for 5 mins before deciding it was too early to go hunting and heading back to the barn.
All the time spent watching a barn door with no joy had paid off today, well worth getting cold and a little damp for !
