Another perfect Cumbrian Winters day, so an early morning walk to see what was about in the local haunts. Still no sign of the Short Eared Owl that visited a few days ago, but the sun was out on the snow so I played with a few landscape shots ( not my area of expertise ! ) and watched a Wren hopping around the trees, then on the way home a Barn Owl was quartering in a field by the road, so I stopped and spent half an hour just enjoying its flight.
Once the blood had returned to my fingers, we took a another quick walk out in the afternoon to Longlands Lake, the lake was half frozen but the open water was busy with Black Headed Gulls, Pochard, Tufted ducks and a first for me here a Gadwall. On the lakeside a female Bullfinch was feeding on the old grass seed heads and a Kestrel was watching from afar.
Another lovely day in Cumbria, I just hope the blue sky and frost stays for a while.
