25 January 2026 – Walk around Whitehaven harbour and local fields

The weathers been a bit hit and miss of late so Ive not managed to get out too much. The local pond has had a bit of action after the freeze, with the Mute Swans back, lots of Gooseanders and Teal but no sign of the Heron.

This weekend we took a wander around Whitehaven Harbour, nice sunshine and a few interesting birds about. The harbour itself was home to lots of Mute Swans with some of last years young still about and just starting to loose their grey feathers. The boardwalks were busy too with lots of Redshanks and the odd Cormorant about.

Down on the beach the Oyster catcher were out in force and up on the sea cliffs a lone Kestrel was perched. All in all a nice stroll in some much needed sunshine.

Back home a wander across the fields with the dog, and some quick shots of our local Robin . Fingers crossed the weather will settle down a bit and some more life will return to our local area – watch this space !
