03 October 2026 – Isle of Arran day one

Day one of our Autumn trip to Arran.

Today was a traveling day from Cumbria to Arran, so we caught the ferry from Troon to Brodick in a strong wind, but not as bad as yesterday when all ferries were cancelled !

The Journey was one hour and twenty minutes, and the first hour was spent watching Gannets, and Black Headed Gulls flying alongside, then as we approached the harbour at Brodick we were treated to a pod of Short Beaked Common Dolphins just of the prow of the boat. There was approx 12 and a mixture of young and adult. They gave a fantastic display jumping out of the water and swimming just off the boat. A superb way to start our holiday.

Once on the Isle, it was a spot of lunch and a quick drive to our cottage, there was just enough time left to take Skye out for a walk to Kingscross to see what was about before the light faded. This spot never fails to provide, we sat in peace and watch a Common Seal hunting, lots of diving Cormorants, Black Headed Gulls, Gannets, Grey Herons , Wild Rabbits and even a Hare hiding in the grass.

Not a bad first day, lets see what tomorrow brings !
