Day two of our Autumn Arran trip. The day started grey and damp but with a great red sunrise however as soon as that went the darkness was still there. Not to be deterred I headed off around Kingscross to see what was about and I’m glad I did .
As soon as I got to my spot, I noticed two Grey Seals which were as interested in me as I was them, then a third smaller one poked up through the surface and it was an Otter ! It headed onto the land and had a quick look at me before carrying on its business and heading back into the sea a few minutes later. Then for the next hour all three of them took turns in swimming up to me for a look before carrying on hunting. The light was not great but what a fantastic way to start the day.
The usual crowd were there as well, Gannets, Cormorant , black headed Gulls and Herring Gulls and I left them going about their business as I headed back to our cottage for breakfast.
The day continued between grey and wet but we headed off over the Sliddery road to Killdonan and the area around it. We were lucky to spot a Male Hen Harrier, Hooded Crows, Sparrow Hawks, Curlews, Rock Pipets,Rock Pippits, Redshanks , more Seals and of course Oyster Catchers, Buzzards and Pied Wagtails.
I finished the day with another wander around Kingsross and Whiting bay areas, but the storm looked set and there were only a few Seals, the odd Gull and of course Rabbits.
Another great day on Arran and hopefully more to come tomorrow, regardless of the weather we will be out enjoying this fantastic island
