17 October 2026 – Arran Autumn Trip day 15

This was our last day on the island after two weeks of wonderful wildlife. Our ferry wasn’t until midday so I went for one last Otter walk in the morning and today luck was on my side, after 15 mins here appeared swimming along the Kingscross coast just before the sun rose, Sadly he never got out of the sea and was gone all to soon, but it was a great way to say goodbye to the Island until our next trip.

Waiting for the ferry to Troon the sun was out and the sea calm and we spotted a pod of Common Dolphins in Brodick Bay and we watched them until it was time to board the ferry. Once we left the harbour the Dolphns reappeared alongside the boat for most of the journey, along with the plentiful Guillemot’s it made for a great Journey.

There was one more surprise though and as we approach Troon we were lucky to see a Minky Whale breach just off the ferry. It came up three times before going under for ten minutes and then did it again. All in all we saw it do three sets of three breaches.

A fantastic day, and a great way to end our Autumn Arran Trip, now its back to Cumbria to see what the Barn Owls have been doing in my absence !
