Today we started our day with a walk around the gardens at Thrieve house and then at lunch time headed over to farm at Laurieston which feeds the local population of Red Kites.
We arrived early and watched the the Kites gathering ready to be fed, at 2pm the farmer came out in protective gear and threw chunks of meat on the grass and a feeding table, and in came the Red Kites. There must have been over a hundred birds swooping down to grab the food, and the stayed for well over an hour, long after the food had been eaten. It was great to watch the birds feed, all be it slightly artificially ! The only down side was that a Westerly wind meant the birds flew in and away with their backs to us, it didn’t detract from the experience, but some of the photographers were less than happy!
I took a lot of pictures, and have not had time to go through all of them as yet, so what you see below is just a selection, expect the gallery to grow over the next week or so !
