Today we had a trip to Preston so on the way we stoped off at RSPB Leighton Moss for a quick visit. As you would imagine being the Easter holidays, it was busy with people but we stayed for an hour or so.
The light wasn’t great but we enjoyed watching the Marsh Harriers flying over the reed beds, the Black Headed Gulls were in very good voice and were gathering nesting material on the main ponds.
The Shoveler ducks and Teal were likewise out in force and the Avocets and Redshanks busy feeding at the Eric Morecambe hide. Back on the reserve the Bitterns were heard but not seen, so no change from the norm there then 🙂
I hope to get back to the reserve for an early morning visit, but with the forecast not great next week, I might leave it a bit before I go back and by then hopefully nesting will be in full swing and the adults will be out feeding.
