19 September 2026 – Beckermet, West Cumbria

A very windy day with rain in the wind, but it looked like it was going to clear so we headed off to walk along a track which finishes at the sea. The walk out to the beach was uneventful, but as the weather settled the wildlife started to come out. There were four Roe Deer in the fields, two male and two female, they took of in to the bracken as we approached and even though we knew there were there they were incredibly difficult to spot. At the beach the waves and wind had driven most of the birds inland, but there were a couple of Bar Tailed Godwits and a few Cormorants, and of course the Oyster catchers.

Walking back we spotted two Barn Owls out hunting of the marsh, it was only 3 pm but they were hunting anyway. We watched them both catch voles, with one coming close to the path were we stood.

A great day wandering about with some lovely wildlife spots, Skye enjoyed herself as well !
