22 September 2025 : Isle of Arran in Scotland, day 3

This is our second full day on the island and we decided after visiting the beach just below our cottage to get up early and be there at sunrise to see what wildlife was out and about. We weren’t disappointed as the sun was shining and once it cleared the horizon it was warm and very bright, We put a blanket out on the rocks of the beach and started to watch the shore and beach.

It wasn’t long before the wildlife started to appear, in the distance we could see a pod of dolphins jumping out of the sea, and closer to shore the Gannets were diving for fish. Oddly today they weren’t diving straight down but flying over the surface and entering the water at an angle, it was dramatic but meant that you could see the birds before the dived just a mass of splashing . Just off the shore an Otter was aiming back and forth looming for fish, and while we didn’t get a close up view it was great to watch , made all the better but the sudden arrival of a Seal who popped its head above the water, bobbed around for a short while and then was gone.

We stayed for an hour or more before heading off along the beach to Whiting bay and a coffee shop, along the way spotting Swans, Oyster catcher, turnstones and a lot of grey herons.

Back at the cottage the Hares and Rabbits were out in force, a quick change before heading out for a quick walk to some local waterfalls, a great walk but the wildlife here ws hiding and all we managed was a Buzzard and a Grey Wagtail but not to worry it was another great day in Scotland.
