03 May 2025 – Ospreys and Hares in the South Lakes

The weather was sunny and so we headed off today to the South Lakes for the Bank Holiday, and on the way home decided to call into Foulshaw Moss and see if we could catch a glimpse of the Ospreys.

Last time I was here the nest was a long way off and the Ospreys were only really a dot in the distance, today however we noticed the Ospreys had chosen a new nesting location, and while it was still a little way of the hide it was much closer and we could make out two birds in the nest. After a few minutes we saw the birds mating and the male took off and flew off towards the coast, after only a few minutes he returned, flying close to the hide, carrying nesting material in its beak.

Great to see them doing so well, and in a good spot, if we are passing this way again we will defiantly call in again.

The sun was still shining, and so on the way home we stopped off again at the hare field, and were lucky to catch a few glimpses of them feeding in the last of the evening light
